Another Close Call, Another Win
Another game that came down to the last minute, and another win for the Syracuse Orange. With 14 seconds left and the Orange down 55-54, Rakeem Christmas made the play of the game. After an SU trap, Christmas intercepted a forced NC State pass, gave it off to Ennis who dished it up to CJ Fair for the game winning layup with 7 seconds left. Syracuse made one last defensive stand to hold on and improve to 25-0, 12-0 in ACC play.
Coach Boeheim said after the game, "We had little or no chance. We had the trap we wanted, Rak got the steal and we got the fast break. It was a really tough basketball game, our third game in seven days. We just didn't seem to have our legs, and couldn't make anything. Today we missed free-throws, we usually don't. Tyler made a couple of bad plays, like a freshman. But at the end of the day we made a steal and converted it. It was a heck of a win considering the way we played."
Syracuse struggled offensively again, shooting just 19-54 (35%) from the field, and 2-12 (17%) from 3-point range. Rakeem led the Orange with 14 points, 12 rebounds, and 7 blocks. Jerami Grant added 12 points and 14 boards, and CJ Fair tallied 11 points and 5 boards. Freshman Tyler Ennis had his worst game of the year, finishing with 9 points, 5 assists, and 4 turnovers.
T.J. Warren, the leading scorer in the ACC with 23.1ppg, finished with a game-high 23 points. He and Kyle Washington combined for 37 of the Wolfpack's 55 points.
Syracuse increased their school-record for consecutive wins to 25, and their best start in school history at 25-0.
